spoofing of legacy protocol over IP and cellular

Back up transmission paths for legacy protocols, such as Supervisory Control and Data Acquisition (SCADA), typically "spoof" the protocol at both ends to allow the IP network, including the cellular air link, to emulate a leased serial data circuit.  The Remote Data Unit (RDU) is a protocol converter between SCADA or another serial protocol and IP on a LAN.  This scenario doesn't provide diverse or redundant access at HQ, which can be arranged separately.
